All That You Need To Know About Lead Substitutes And Radiation Protection

If you are also one of them who are fond of driving and owning classic cars, then lead, then a lead additive is a perfect thing for you as well as for your car, and if you do not have one then go ahead and purchase one.

Classic cars are like jewels from the beautiful eras of the past and if we talk about them now, then we will not be able to find the same classic touch in modern cars. But back in the times when classic cars were manufactured, gasoline was used as a fuel in them which consisted of lead which is a very toxic element, but after some time, the lead got banned.

Lead additive in place of gasoline

The lead was an essential part of a classic car which helped it to run smoothly. But the, a Lead substitute entered the market which again breathed life in the old classic cars. Lead additive became famous among the owners of classic cars, as they thought that this was perfect for their old engines.

Why did lead got banned?

Have a look at the harmful effects of lead which became the reason for its ban-

• Any level of lead exposure was proved to be harmful.

• If anyone comes in contact with lead, then his multiple organs and other parts of the body got affected by it.

• Lead affected the red blood cells of the body and it resulted in the disease anemia which prevented hemoglobin formation in the body.

• If a pregnant woman came in contact with lead, the lead flowing through her blood reached the fetus and harmed it.

What is radiation protection?

Nowadays, radiations are found everywhere whether they are in the form of sun rays or the radiation emitted from mobile phones. Radiations like sun rays do not pose a threat to health but radiations like gamma rays can affect the body on a severe note.

So, to prevent radiation damage, a shield is applied between the source of the ionizing radiation and the source which has to be protected, and that shield is known as the Radiation shielding. The shield is made up of a material that prevents and absorbs the harmful radiations and protects the source from the radiation.

The material used for radiation protection

The most common material which is used for protection from radiation is lead. A lead shield is used in radiation therapy, industrial shielding, and diagnostic imaging. The lean is beaten and transformed in the shape of garments like skirts, vests, and aprons.

Wearing a radiation shield is of utmost importance if you are working in a nuclear lab, industrial place or are experimenting with gamma and x-rays because, if the shield is not present, the radiations can cause harm to your body at a great extent.

So, use lead additive in place of lead for your cars and it depends on you whether you want to use it or not but it is always preferred to be used on a safer side, and radiation protection is also very important i9f your body is getting exposed to radiations.
